Sara had been carrying the glossy green egg for a while, though (usually in a backpack). With what Rachel had said, the Au Ra didn't expect it to hatch into anything.  But today, as she'd gone shopping in Domina, she'd taken it out to look at it...

And it had wobbled.  First, just a little, but then it had shot off--oddly like the thing that had become Domina, weeks ago.  And she had to run after it, to see what happened.

The sparkling, of course, was to be expected, but when it popped up into a very LARGE cavern, her eyes boggled.  That...was definitely not what she had been expecting...

Not that she was really sure what she had been expecting.  Still. This was not it.

The fact that you're failing is the problem! There are a lot of mouths to feed, here! You could at least concentrate on the crumpets; I've got enough for a lot of those.

[Maybe less than a lot, with how Dread is packing it in.] I do want to see if I can get jam, next time. Not sure what kind, but.

I could always make some, too, assuming I could find fruit to make it with. Or jelly. I could make a nice rose hip jelly...

In size I count for three people here, you know that. <[Four or five if you counted Sara and Irves among those people. No, he's neither sorry nor pretending to be sorry about eating his wife's cooking.] Rather see peach, myself, if you can get it.

I think you count for three people anywhere, dear. [A pause.] Unless we're discussing another Roegadyn, or mayhap the Bull of Ala Mhigo, himself.

[Sara shook her head, then.] Not sure we can get peaches right now, assuming they even exist, here. Though I will keep an eye out. It seems like it's a little late in the season for things like berries and some of the stone fruits.

There might be jam for sale, though, somewhere in Domina that I haven't seen yet!

Must be something like that. [He chews on this mentally as he chews on his food literally, though rather than gazing off into space he's just watching Sara at work. No nicer place to let his eyes focus.] We're going to have to make more money somehow.

I've been considering mixing up some salves or oils and seeing if I can sell them through one of the shops already in Domina. I haven't pursued it very far, yet, because I'm not sure what I can find. Best not to put the cart before the chocobo, you know?

[She looked over at her husband, even as she slid a few more warm crumpets onto his plate. There were plenty more to be made, for all her teasing.]

I suppose you could do some bodyguarding work, if you chose, but I would not want to push you into it. [Even though their magic was gone, for the moment. It might be a bit too close to going back to the roots he'd tried so hard to leave behind.]

[Unfounded worries. Dread shrugs an inch or two, which is still a lot of impressive motion given his size.] I could do that. It'd be nicer if we had an arrangement than just working freelance, but this isn't Eorzea...

Makes me wish I'd put more time into learning how to craft beyond hammering in a nail to help the company out.

Well, you have to admit that learning might help us here, if something happens. Besides, I did learn how to craft, and I still feel like that will be constrained by the materials I can collect, here, you know?

[Sara swings the griddle off the fire, for the moment, and lets the crumpets slide off on to the plate. She had a small pile, and no use in making more for now, if they were just going to get cold.]

I'm not sure what other things we could do. Maybe classes of some sort, but still, that might end up more bartering with the others. I'm a bit at a loss, I have to admit.

There are a lot of kids around here. I was thinking I could help them learn to take care of themselves.

[And learn a little discipline and control in the process. Not the subtle knives of a rogue, but the straightforward ways of the pugilist.]

[Meanwhile, no fear of the crumpets going to waste -- Dread barely let some of them touch that first plate before he got them on his own.]

We could always see what needs doing around town, too.

True, we could. And probably should. To both. If you want me to investigate the town, I could do that.

[Only because since she is waist height on him, Sara is slightly less terrifying than her husband. She gives him a slightly exasperated, but fond look as he has more crumpets. She should have bought more ingredients...]

I have seen a few of them, but I haven't spent enough time around here getting to know that many people. I keep losing myself in the woods and seeing what sort of edible things are out there. [Because it takes a lot to keep so many mouths fed, and she wants to do her part!]

[There's upsides and downsides to that. Never mind that Sara is just as capable as he is; people are quicker to believe the huge, burly guy is the fighter they want to trust.]

That's something we ought to focus on. We know it isn't safe here. We can't protect everyone. [Maybe if they both could bring out their Egis, but...]

Well, I'm sure there are others here who can protect themselves. But some of the others, and the young ones...yes, you know you're right.
