[Log] An Odd Owner for an Odd Egg; OPEN
Who: Bokuto, his hatched Odd Egg, and YOU
What: Who put this guy in charge of another living creature, he can barely take care of himself. Please send help or an adult.
Where: Around the Home Tree
When: After his Egg Hatched idk
Other: TBD
[1] Home; the Study: What Does it Eat
[In all eighteen years of his life, Bokuto had never been allowed to have a pet. For one thing, his home had never had room for his boisterousness and his siblings, much less any animals. For another, he would barely have time to take care of one, and even though Bokuto had spent as much time as anyone else pouring over cute dog or cat or owl pictures, he could concede it was probably a bad idea to get a pet.
The little moss thing that had came out of the egg, while weird, definitely seemed to be pet-like. So Bokuto was going to do his best to be a good owner, even if it meant trying to make sense of the mostly blank books in the study. After about a minute or two of furtive, noisy page flipping, he was going to toss his head back, gripping it in despair.]
What does moss eat?!
[2] Home; Outside: Putting on the Ritz
[Okay so Bokuto doesn’t know much about moss or pets or what exactly he should do to be a good pet owner, but pets like walks right? And the little thing has legs, so he’s just going to be outside, a few steps away from the little moss ball looking thing with legs, calling towards it.]
Here Ace! Come here!
[Though if he caught anyone watching, he’d beam up at them proudly.]
Hey, hey, hey! Do you have a leash?
[Because clearly this was normal and the right way to do things.]

[Kuroo's grinning, leaning against a tree as he watches this spectacle.]
And no, I don't have a leash. Even if I did, I'd have my own uses for it. [This is evident in the fluffy, floppy yellow rabite beside him - though, honestly, it doesn't look like it needs a leash. It looks like it needs a nap.]
no subject
[Still, if he could be his replacement...]
Ace might not be able to play volleyball right now, but some day...
[Bokuto no. Though he did glance up at the mention of having his own use for a leash, about to say something inappropriate when he spotted the rabite. He scooped up Ace so he could have the two pets meet and get to know each other, crouching down next to Kuroo's pet.]
Oooh! Cool! What did you name yours?
no subject
[But when Bokuto brings his egg child over, Kuroo kneels down next to his rabite, resting a hand on its head and grinning. The rabite blinks owlishly at Bokuto and Ace.] I kind of wanted to name it Kenma, but I figured that'd be confusing with the real deal already here. So I named it Lev.
no subject
[Though that doesn't mean he'll grow arms. For all Bokuto knew, he'd grow even more volleyball-like, but that would be fine too. Bokuto liked volleyballs.
He couldn't help but bark out a laugh at the sleepy looking creature, who definitely would have been a great Kenma, kneeling down to let 'Lev' sniff his hand like one would a dog or cat.]
Ken-kun would have been a better name! Though maybe since you have to babysit both Levs, it's fine. He's definitely cuter than your kouhai.
no subject
Lev sniffs at Bokuto's fingers, licks them experimentally once, and then decides biting is in order. But Kuroo apparently has his own child figured out already, because even as the rabite is opening its jaws, Kuroo promptly smushes his hand over its mouth, flat-palmed, as a barrier to anything actually going in it.] Oh no you don't.
He's cuter than the real Lev, but he's just as much trouble. He chews everything. This world needs baby gates, honestly.
2
It... it was ball of grass. With legs. ]
Aiyaa!! What the--?!
[ The Cantonese spilled out of her mouth instinctively. She took a few steps back at the sight, not even hearing Bokuto's question. ]
Bokuto-senpai, what is that?!
no subject
Ace toddled over into Bokuto's waiting arms as Bokuto glanced up, grinning as he recognized the speaker, even if the first few words out of her mouth seemed unintelligible.]
Hey, hey, I-Pin! [The question, while phrased a little less ideally than he would like, didn't seem to offend him in the least. He held out the little moss balls creature happily.] His name is Ace! He came out of an egg and I'm taking care of him! You want to hold him?
[Girls liked holding cute and not at all gross looking things right?]
no subject
When Bokuto came closer, the little mossy creature wiggling in his arms, I-Pin unconsciously backed away from him. Despite her general panic and freaked-out-ness, she forced herself to smile a little bit, not wanting to upset Bokuto, as she shook her head. ]
No, no... He looks happier with you anyway.
[ Her eyes flicked back and forth from Bokuto to Ace. ]
...Why is he only legs right now?
no subject
He paused a few feet from her when she took that step back, frowning slightly. Maybe as he was now, Ace wasn't cute enough? That was just fine, Bokuto liked him well enough anyway, beaming when I-Pin said he looked happier with him. How could she tell was not a question he would ever ask, and that was probably for the best.]
Thanks! I've never had a pet before so I've been trying to be a good owner.
[The question however, made him shrug, and he looked down at Ace to give him a comforting pat on the head (?).]
Dunno. Maybe this is what he's supposed to look like? Or maybe it's because he's a baby.
no subject
[ She was going to say that it was a bad idea that his first pet was a thing of nightmares. Who knew if it was high maintenance? Or would grow up violent. But, she decided against saying anything. He was happy and was trying, and that was what mattered.
Hopefully.]Can he see anything? What does he eat?
no subject
[You know, because they said that pets took after their owners and Bokuto was definitely big and strong.
At the rest of the questions, Bokuto lifted Ace up a bit more so that he was eye level, frowning.]
Dunno. Probably? He seems to be able to follow me around. Right now I've been feeding him scraps from the kitchen and making sure he gets enough sunlight. He looks like a plant right? So maybe he just needs what any plant needs.
no subject
I mean, that's not a bad idea. But, you never know with this place. Have you asked around town about what Ace might need? He may need more than just scraps.
[ Okay, but now, she was really curious. ]
...How does he eat?
no subject
[Which apparently was what had been going on before he'd been interrupted.
The second question made him frown slightly, and he set Ace back down to wander around near his feet as he hemmed and hawed, trying to find a suitable answer. Then finally, he opened his eyes, grinning widely.]
No idea! But you can watch him next time if you want! Maybe we can figure it out.
[Bokuto no.]
no subject
[ Wait. What. ]
Bokuto-senpai, you've never watched him eat? What, did you throw just the scraps on the ground and look away?
[ That was a joke, Bokuto. Please, say no. ]
no subject
A rope just feels wrong...
[That question made Bokuto look up at her, gaze distant and uncomprehending.]
Well there's a difference between seeing something happen and understanding what happened.
[Bokuto did a lot of the former and just a little bit of the latter.]
no subject
[ Why, Bokuto, somehow, you just made complete sense. ]
I... Hm, well, you're absolutely right. We could try right now, I have some water, and maybe Ace is thirsty right now.
[ She picked up her canteen leaning against the tree and unscrewed the top. About to move closer to Ace, her nerves got the best of her and quickly handed the drink to Bokuto. ]
no subject
[The little moss ball didn't seem to hear, seemingly content wandering around Bokuto's feet, occasionally venturing near to I-Pin as if scooping her out before turning around.
He took the canteen from her with a grateful grin, before squatting down next to his pet, pouring some water into his hand and holding out.]
Here Ace, here!
[The little moss ball wandered up to him and one minute there was definitely water and then the next, none.
Bokuto looked up at I-Pin as if to say 'see?'.]
It's the same with food.
no subject
...What? How did he...? Do it again!
[ This time, she leaned in closer, pure curiosity trumping over any fear. ]
no subject
He did it a few more times, each time the water disappearing just as quickly as it had the first time.
However, perhaps I-Pin would notice that somewhere in that mess of mossy fur, was a mouth.]
Weird huh?
no subject
It is weird... I think he may have a mouth, but I'm not sure. [ A pause. ] Can... Can I try giving him some water?
[ Hopefully Ace needed a lot of water with how much they were hydrating him. ]
no subject
[Even though Bokuto was totally head over heels for Ace, he could understand that not everyone would be enamored with a creature that looked like a mossy pair of balls with legs. Also, I-Pin wasn't going to have to take Ace out to the bathroom multiple times after he drank his weight in water.
Still, it was her canteen, so Bokuto handed it back to her obligingly.]
no subject
How did Ace relieve his bladder (?) anyway?I-Pin took the container from Bokuto, and gave a determined nod, despite being squeamish about Ace. No guts, no glory. ]
Y-yeah. [ She poured a small amount of water into her hand and held out her palm to the creature. ] C-come here, Ace.
no subject
Bokuto clapped an encouraging hand onto I-Pin's shoulder, settling down next to her to watch as Ace toddled over to her. He seemed as fearless as his owner, because without much other encouragement, he was sticking his mossy ball shaped face (?) into her hands, the water gone rather quickly. However there might have been a weird brush of something that felt mouth-like, or at least something not as furry as the rest of him.]
So? What do you think?
[Bokuto asked somewhere by her shoulder, peering down between I-Pin and his pet thoughtfully.]
no subject
Was that...?
She gave Ace a soft ruffle on the top of his head-body. ]
I... think he has a mouth? I felt it, but I don't think he has teeth.
[ Speaking of which... ]
Bokuto-senpai, how do you know Ace is a 'he,' anyway?
no subject
[He scooped Ace up, parting his moss a bit as best he could, but nothing jumped out of him. Well, he'd look for it later. The question however, made Bokuto glance back over to I-Pin, expression deadly serious.]
A mother always knows.
[Bokuto please.]
Plus look at him! Doesn't he look pretty manly!
no subject
...Well, he could look manly now but when he grows up, you might find out Ace is actually a she!
[ I-Pin, don't bring your past into this. ]
1
What did you feed it when you caught it? My sister fed hers meat, I think, but her egg was scaly. And now it's a snake!
[She does chuckle a little, at that. As for Bokuto's actual question...well, she's got some small talent in botany, so she can help him out, here.]
Moss is a plant; it 'eats' water and maybe some sort of fertilizer, and sunlight.
no subject
Grinning eagerly, he turned to face her fully.]
I just caught it! There was bait, but I didn't use it.
[He puffed his chest out proudly, because clearly that was the point of the exercise, before realizing that didn't help at all, deflating slightly.]
Oh, a snake is pretty cool! Has she named it?
[At the actual answer, Bokuto crossed his arms over his chest, nodding in consideration.]
Okay, so just water it and let it wander around outside. That should be good... [He turned his gaze back up to the helpful person, grinning widely.] Thanks! I'll try it.
no subject
[Sarangerel shrugged at that, looking a bit sheepish. She wasn't even sure what gender Irves' rattler boa was, honestly...]
Though if your pet looks a bit brown or starts acting strange, we can try using some fertilizer or compost or something--I do some cooking in the kitchen, making a little place for a compost pile should be no trouble. If nothing else, if your little fellow doesn't use it, if we start growing food, it'll get put to use that way, you know?
no subject
Hey, hey, that sounds like a great idea! If you don't mind, I'd like to try it out. I wouldn't want him to starve...
[But okay, now that was out of the way, he had to ask-]
Are those horns?
[He gestured vaguely to her head, eyes wide.]
no subject
I'd be only too happy to help. [But then, she had to laugh.]
Four of them are horns, yes! My sister and I...well. We got into trouble back home, and the horns were the result. They're the biggest and smallest pair.
These, though? The medium ones? [She puts a finger very gently on the forward-sweeping, darker scaled 'horns'] They actually serve as my ears. They just look like horns.
no subject
Hey, hey! That's awesome! They look so cool, I'm jealous!
[He gestured vaguely to his own spiked up hair, clearly despairing.]
I've always though horns would be great to have... What kind of trouble did you get into?
[Bokuto no.]
no subject
[yes. hair product. Sara knows about these things...]
Oh, Twelve help us. Trouble, yes. She and I went to Aurum Vale in Coerthas, and, well. It used to be used for a mythril mine, and then the Garlean Empire infiltrated it, and it's a right mess now! The mythril interacted with sulfur in there, and there's pools of toxic stuff in there...
And, well, my sister is a black mage, all lightnings and explosions and ice blasts, and...it seems like that sort of thing has an odd effect when it hits goldbile, which is what they call the toxic stuff. We sprouted all these extra horns, and claws, so we don't much look like your normal Au Ra any more.
[Sara pauses at that, thoughtfully.] Not that that's likely to happen here, right now. I can't access my magic, and Irves can't access hers, either. Mine is a lot less flashy, though. I'm a summoner.
[If he's thinking that involves conjuring up creatures of some sort, he's really not far off.]
no subject
[Once again, he gave her horns an envious look before sighing.
While Bokuto couldn't say he knew what exactly all the details where in the story, he could at least appreciate the implications of magic in a toxic place and having to sprout weird appendages. Maybe this place would have a similar sort of cave...?
Or, that was his hope until the woman acknowledged it wasn't likely to happen here. Bokuto let out a groan, falling back into his chair.]
Why not! That would be so cool! I'd love to see you two do magic.
[Oh, though he was probably being rude... He looked back up at her quizzically, head canted to the side.]
You've talked about your sister a lot, but what's your name?
no subject
[She threw up her hands, and looked exasperated.] Nothing! I am actually versed in a few disciplines, but still nothing! It's rather frustrating. So it's not because I don't want to show you. I literally cannot, to my sorrow.
no subject
Since he didn't know anything about how actual magic worked, he could only go off what few video games and shows had taught him.]
Do you think you need to make a potion to make your magic come back? Or go on a quest? Or defeat a villain?
[Bokuto please.]
no subject
[Sara paused, to digest the rest of the boy's words, and her brows flew up; perhaps comically so.]
Well, if Fa'diel--this place--is anything like my home, I might just have to do the latter two! At least I have some experience!
[Sara are you joking, or are you serious? It's hard to tell and you probably don't want to give this boy ideas...]
What's your name? I don't think I caught it.
no subject
Her excitement was only going to rub off on Bokuto, who pumped his fists up in the air happily.]
Hey, hey, it sounds like fun! I don't know any magic but going on a quest to defeat a villain could be a good way to get exercise!
[Bokuto no, you'd be useless in a fight with anything other than some low ranking monsters. And even then...
The gap in his manners didn't seem to embarrass him, and instead he just grinned, standing up, hands on his hips as he stated boastfully:]
I'm Bokuto! 18 years old, Fukurodani's ace and captain! It's nice to meet you!
[Unfortunately he introduced himself like that to a lot of people that way...]
no subject
Likewise, Bokuto. But I must ask...do you even know how to hold a sword? Or fight?
[Because if not he's probably going to get dragged by the hand to meet her husband. And enrolled in Dread's pugilism class...]
I am afraid I don't know what an 'ace' is though, outside of card games. And I'm going to guess you're not a military captain, are you?
2
[akaashi also had a hatched something or other but it was up in his room napping so he didn't want to disturb it since he still wasn't sure what to... do with it exactly?
needing some air he went to have a bit of a reat outside where he found his ace who was with his own ace apparently.
it was cute.]
I don't have a leash, sorry. Have you been taking care of Ace well?
[might be... a little worried?]
no subject
[Bokuto waved happily as soon as he spotted his friend, smile wide. It became smug though, at Akaashi's compliment to the name. His teammate's opinion was important to him, especially since it was hard won. He scooped up Ace in his arms as he came closer, beaming.]
Right? He'll definitely grow into it, I know it!
[At the mention of taking care of him, Bokuto nodded happily.]
Yeah! I've been letting him sleep with me, I've been feeding him three times a day, and taking him out on walks! [A small pause, as Bokuto wilted slightly.] I tried to brush his moss, but it doesn't seem to want to stick up...
[Bokuto, just because there's an old adage about pets resembling their owners doesn't mean you have to force it along.]
1
[he entered the study just in time to hear the fukurodani ace make the frustrated remark. and a quick glance told him all he needed to know.]
Compost? Water. Don't suppose you've ever done gardening before, but think of it as a plant maybe.
[maybe? the fact that bokuto has a lump of living moss is pretty damn weird actually and maybe it didn't follow the same... plant logic? who even knows.]
no subject
[Especially since how awkward would that be to collect in the first place. Also what would he put it in, wouldn't it reek, and what if Ace didn't like it? He would have done all that work for nothing.
He canted his head to the side, frowning thoughtfully, before deciding, no, he hadn't really done any gardening.]
Nah, I haven't. Have you?
