[Event] Pumpkiller

Who: A very big and magical Jack-O-Lantern and you
What: A giant pumpkin is trying to take over Domina... or something like that.
Where: West Domina, past the residential area
When: Day 33

At least, that's what the usual mail pelican is frantically squawking about on the front steps of home with her feathers going everywhere as she flaps her wings.

And.... there are some very disconcerting dark clouds gathering around Domina that haven't yet started intruding on the sky around Home. Perhaps this merits some checking out.

To those that venture forth, they'll notice that Domina is eerily quiet as they step into it from the road. Both Domina's tavern and inn seem empty, which is a strange thing in itself. Anyone who's visited the town regularly will have noticed that those two places, for good reason, are often the most lively places in town.

Just where has everyone gone....?

[Rainbow's turn to come to the rescue! She half-leaped, half-flew up into the air in a big arc that brought all four hooves down onto the vine. She tramples it thoroughly.]

This is crazy! We're being attacked by pumpkins and it isn't even some weird Nightmare Night celebration!

I don't know what that is... [With a snarl and a flash of claws, Skyfire slashes through a few vines while wondering if he's actually gone insane.]

... But this entire place seems crazy. [Another pumpkin goes flying via his tail, and he opens his mouth in an attempt to torch the thing... only to hiss and snap his mouth shut in aggravation as there was no flame.]

You're not kidding. Whoa! Air! AIR! [Rainbow launches upwards with a trail of color following her, as a veritable wave of pumpkins rolls towards them. This what'sit guy can fly, right?!]

[Skyfire's eyes go wide at the sight, and he certainly does try to get airborne, but all he ends up doing is scrabbling around over the tops of them, snarling and attempting to get to a pumpkin free area. The flapping of his wings just stirring up dust as vines kept trying to grab him, making lift off impossible.
...One set of vines ripped out another clump of feathers, causing him to roar]

THAT'S IT!

[Okay, it was official. Skyfire lost his temper. It took a lot to get him to that point, but when it happened... He'd had quite enough of this insanity and since the 'horse' was clear of him, he used his claws, teeth and tail to clear out an area around him in a flurry of activity.

There is soon a pile of shredded vine and pumpkin both beneath and around him, but he's left panting in short order, trying to cool his systems. There are still many more pumpkins about, but they seemed to temporarily be giving him a wide berth. Pumpkins that get too close to him get punted into the distance via his tail with a growl.]

Where are these things coming from?

[If Rainbow Dash got close enough to hear his panting, she might notice the sound of something similar to the whine of an over stressed, over heated, machine. Possibly cluing her into the fact he's not quite what he appears to be.]

Whoa.

[Rainbow honestly has no idea what he is, because dragons don't have feathers. But never mind that now! She drops down to about head height on him, staring in wonder at the vegetable carnage he'd wrought around him.]

That was awesome!

[Skyfire is 'panting' in an attempt to cool himself down, grimacing as he's sure he's overheated something in his systems during his flurry of activity. Smaller body, smaller air exchange, lesser cooling... bad combination.]

That... was exhausting.

[He punts another pumpkin away with his tail and huffs.]

I wonder how risky it would be just to set these all on fire...

[Not that he had any flame breath right now. Granted, they were mobile and could spread the fire everywhere... On second thought, Skyfire decided it may not be such a good idea after all...]

Hold on! [Rainbow sticks up her hooves to put a stop to that idea.] No fire! We live in a tree, remember?!

Well, I never said it would be a smart idea...

[He smashes another pumpkin with an annoyed growl.]

Just a tempting one... [A sigh] Too dangerous with these things able to spread it though.

Yeah, there's like hundreds of these things. [She turns to survey the area, then sticks a hoof out at the big guy in the back.] And THERE's the boss.

[Skyfire hisses a bit as he catches sight of the huge thing and winces]

I think it might be time for a tactical retreat... Something like that is going to take some planning to take down... Possibly a high powered, projectile weapon of some type...

Uh, we don't have one of those. [Not to rain on your parade, man, but that's a bit of a problem.]

Well then...

[He spots an orange sized stone on the ground and picks it up.]

We'll just have to improvise.

[Skyfire throws the stone into the air, and twists his body to add some extra power to the swat of his tail. The impact of tail into stone, sends it hurtling at the huge pumpkin, and while it doesn't do a lot of damage, it does cause some. Attacking from a distance seemed a good idea.]

Target practice anyone? [He was already looking for another rock.]

Nice one! [Rainbow whacks him on the back with a hoof to congratulate him on the good shot -- which suddenly turns into much more hurried whacking as she points at an onrushing wave of smaller pumpkins.] I think you made them mad!

[He spots the wave of pumpkins and swears, fortunately it's in his native language which nobody should be able to understand.]

A tactical retreat seems like a really good idea right now...

[Turning tail and running might not seem to be the bravest of things, but knowing when you're outmatched... He's quick to turn and bolt from the wave of pumpkins, wishing he was able to fly at the moment...]

This pony doesn't retreat!

[But then why is she right at his side, keeping pace with him with strong beats of her wings.]

Not gonna let you go alone and risk getting ambushed though...

[Riiiight....]

[He'll not say a word about her using him as a way to back off without loosing face. There was truth to strength in numbers after all... and those stupid plants outnumbered them by a lot.]

How far does it look to the edge of their reach? There are too many for close combat, but maybe we can find a way to attack the big one from a distance instead.

Do I look like a unicorn? Look, we need more help on this. If we can rally a whole bunch of guys together MAYBE we can get through.

[Skyfire punts another pumpkin with his tail as they reach what seems to be the edge of the pumpkin chaos.]

What does that have to do with anything? [Then again, he didn't know what a unicorn could do so...]

More help would be good, but at the same time... [He eyes the giant pumpkin in the distance and makes a few mental calculations.] I can still hit the thing from here if I can find something to use as ammunition.

Well... why not use the pumpkin guys? They're about all we have around here right now. [Unless they want to tear stuff apart, and Rainbow figures that's a bad idea.]

You don't think they'll just splatter? [He eyes one of the smaller pumpkins still trying to reach them, then shrugs.]

Worth a try I suppose... Got any ideas on how to grab them without getting swarmed again?

Okay, check this out. I'll fly low enough for one to try to grab me. When they go for me, I'll pull back and YOU grab me and together we'll haul one out of the pack. [She swipes a hoof dramatically from left to right to emphasize the hauling.] Sound cool?

[Skyfire grimaced a little at the idea, looking between her and the pumpkins.]

I'm not to fond of that idea... Can you think of something that won't put you in harms way? [A sigh because he can't think of anything better at the moment] Still, if that's the only way...

If it doesn't work we go looking for something better to use as ammunition... like rocks or something... [The only reason he's not trying to use them now is that there don't seem to be many loose rocks around.]

Do you see any rocks? 'Cuz I sure don't. Unless we wanna go all the way to town and start borrowing their stuff.

[She could do it! But dragon guy here is probably way too slow to keep up.]

[He frowns and sighs.]

Fine...but if this turns out to be a bad idea we back off and go to town to ask around to try and find something else to use as ammunition.

[Skyfire didn't like the plan, but he's willing to try it.]

Relaaaaax, I got this! You just get ready to grab me when they do, okay?

[Rainbow Dash is all cocky confidence -- this is a plan she came up with and it relies on her being awesome, so no sweat, right?]
