[log] Eggs 101
Who: Rachel and half a dozen other people
What: Hey, kid, want to see an egg? The Eggs 101 quest.
Where: The outskirts of Domina, past the residential area
When: Day 11
Other: Surprise parenthood
Domina, despite the magical way it appeared to the residents of the tree, is a very simple town. While there's bustling activity of all sorts near the market, a quieter atmosphere reigns in places like the church on top of the hill or near the residential area and its outskirts. This is something that is obvious to anyone who's explored a little around town at all and has a bit of observational skills.
Today, however...
A little past the array of houses, near what should be a quiet clearing, is a cacophony of chirping. Anyone who goes to investigate will find nine eggs there in the middle of the clearing. At least... They look sort of like eggs. They all share a general egg shape as the best: oval and white. However... One seems to have fins on the side of it. Another seems to have cracks in its shell that almost seem like jaws. Et cetera, et cetera. All of them are mobile, but they don't go very far. In fact, they stick pretty close together and only seem to wander a little ways off from the main group before stumbling back and inevitably colliding with one of their own.
Crouched down behind a decently sized bush is a young woman with quivering antennae and delicate bug-like wings, her blue hair held back out of her face. For anyone who's been particularly social or observant or both, they might recognize her: this is Rachel, the daughter of the general store couple.

➸ Rachel
"Hey, hide! C'mon! They'll see you and get scared off!"
[ooc: Feel free to reply this in either prose or action tags, I can do either.]
Re: ➸ Rachel
The Au Ra did not expect to see little eggs tottering about. Her eyes widened in surprise and glee. They were so cute! She started forward, but stopped herself out of fear she would scare them away. If they could run away at all, the little darlings didn't look like they were capable of any kind of direct motion. She stifled a giggle as two eggs got their legs tangled up and collided with tiny chittering.
Suddenly she was grabbed by the wrist and pulled behind a bush next to a young girl with... antenna... Irves was still getting used to the strange new people here. "Sorry, I didn't see you." She whispered apologetically. The Au Ra extended a hand in greeting.
"Sorry. I'm Irves. Are those little darlings yours?"
no subject
"Oh, no!" she whispered back, trying to muffle a quiet laugh behind one hand. "They're not. It's just, um, sometimes Chocobo or Rabites feel comfortable enough to put their eggs around here... I like to check sometimes, just to see." She bit her lip, brow furrowing.
"But... These eggs are different. We don't get these types around here. I'm a little worried, actually..."
no subject
"Worried? But they're so cute..." she trailed off thoughtfully. "Although... you have a point, I've never seen so many different kinds of eggs in one clutch. They can't all be related can they? What could possible lay that kind of variety?"
Irves contemplated a chimera so ridiculous she snorted. Not possible.
"Do you think we should take them somewhere safer? There have to be hawks or something just waiting for these little guys to hatch." Irves shaded her eyes and looked up at the blue, blue sky. The sun was right in the way of any birds that might be overhead, so she couldn't tell for sure. But if she was a scavenger these little ones would look mighty tasty.

[ He ducks and goes to his knees. (If he still floated, he would have just floated lower.) Zenyatta also lowers the volume of his voice. ]
I was drawn to the chirps. I thought there would be birds.
[ Are they truly coming from the eggs themselves? ]
no subject
There usually are- Chocobo lay their eggs around here. But these aren't Chocobo eggs... I have no idea where they came from.
The local animals might bully them if they stay around here too long... Or other things might happen, and they'll hatch only to become really aggressive or fearful of people.
[Her fingers link together in front of her knees.]
If a person raises them, they don't get like that at all... Even the scariest creatures that hatch out.
no subject
I wonder where their parents are. Did they get scared off by other animals? By a Chocobo?
[ He looks around for signs of a struggle. He knows the behavior of some animals towards danger and their young. Could the parents be watching, wary of them, or could the eggs be abandoned? ]

➸ Egg Catching
[What Rachel has advised: leaving a bit of food for an egg, letting it devour it, and then scooping it up while it's full and sleepy.]
[What anyone can do: whatever they darn well like.]
[Keep in mind that the eggs are skittish and fast. If you're going to try and chase them, well.... Have fun.]
[Use this top level to thread out catching the eggs. No NPCing from the mod is required here!]
Kotaro Bokuto | Haikyuu!
With his sharp vision, he managed to spot one rather quickly, giving chase with a loud whoop.]
Hey, wait up! I'm here to take you back home!
[The strange egg would totally listen to that, just like a criminal would stop when told to by the police.
Someone who actually listened to Rachel's advise was welcome to help this poor child or watch him tucker himself and (hopefully) the egg out and take the spoils.]
no subject
In the end, he decided to help, though, his voice a little bit unsure.]
Uh... Bokuto-senpai? Rachel-chan said we should feed them to make them full and sleepy. Maybe we should... try that?
[He hopes he doesn't sound like he's being sarcastic. He's really not.]

"They are quite the marvel, are they not?"
Tadashi Yamaguchi | Haikyu!!
He couldn't count how many times he'd tried this. Set out food, wait for the egg to get sleepy, go to grab it...
And for the millionth time, the damn thing woke up and skittered off again, like a demon.
"Oh, come on!" Exasperation pitching his voice, Yamaguchi nearly threw up his hands in defeat at this latest failure.
no subject
“Hey.” He comes up after the latest escape attempt, a light bump of his knuckles against Yamaguchi’s shoulder. “Want help?” Not need, but want- Tsukishima can understand if this is something he wants to do himself… Sort of.

Avelwyn | OC, stupidly late
[He's not really paying much attention to what it is, partly because he can't *see* what it is very well, but hiding and waiting for the sound of the egg flopping over seems to pay off - or at least make it easier to slink out of the bush and scoop it up, leaves and little root-feet flailing for a few minutes.]
[He's staring at it a little dumbfounded.]
......How does a plant lay an egg?
no subject
This is where skill in read blocking comes into play. It's not easy to read an egg, but then again, they're not exactly using complicated strategy. When Bokuto causes a ruckus, they more or less run directly away from it in a panic.
All Kuroo really has to do is saunter around to be roughly opposite Bokuto, and then watch and wait. And sure enough, soon a spooked egg is running close enough to his direction that a few long strides put him on an intersect course, and he can just scoop it off the ground.]
Gotcha!
[Honestly, Bokuto can be invaluable sometimes.]
no subject
Kenma looked over and spotted an egg he knew Kuroo could catch easily. It wouldn't be too hard since Bokuto spooked them all. When Kuroo caught it, Kenma left his comfy spot from under the tree and walked over to him. He frowned a bit as he looked at the wiggly egg.]
What do you think is inside?
(no subject)
no subject
[But fast doesn’t mean anything if you just run straight into another person, as Kuroo has so easily demonstrated.]
[Tsukishima has left Yamaguchi to take care of the egg, since he’s the one who actually wanted it, and that’s left him free to watch all the chaos again. When he sees Kuroo succeed in grabbing his egg, he make a faint noise of notice.]
Ah… So you had the same idea too.

akaashi keiji ¤ haikyuu!!
so he stood there for a long moment, helplessly watching his upperclassmen making a fool of himself before he decided to wander a little ways away.
...maybe he could catch one too?
easing himself into a crouch near the ground, so as not to seem threatening at all, focusing on a few eggs nearby. voice soft, making calm and cooing sounds hoping to lure one close.
using the food he was given he sprinkled some near himself and also had the rest in his palm. then, slowly... he pressed the back of his palm to the ground.
calm and patient. just needed to be calm and patient. be the safe space the eggs go to, to escape the ruckus.
he could wait all day.]
➸ Egg List
➸ Beast Egg:
Captured by: Kuroo
This egg is by far the simplest appearing out of all of them: a pair of softly furred claws are poking out beneath it, allowing it to make a fast escape if necessary. The cracks in its front look very much like fangs, and allow it to eat.
➸ Plant Egg 1:
Captured by: Zenyatta
Instead of claws, things that seem like hardened roots poke out from the bottom of this egg to allow it to move. More noticeably, thick leafs have broken out from the top.
➸ Odd Egg 1:
Captured by: Tsukishima and Yamaguchi
This egg is.... strange. Unlike some of the others, it doesn't have anything breaking out of it, but there's a peculiar texture to it. Since it can't run, what it seems to do is just fall on its side and roll. It's surprisingly effective.
➸ Odd Egg 2:
Captured by: Bokuto
➸ Plant Egg 2:
Captured by: Avelwyn
➸ Aquatic Egg 1:
Captured by: Maurice
Fins have broken through (or grown?) from the sides of this egg. They're what it uses to push itself and hop forward. It's by far the slowest of the eggs because of this. It really doesn't belong...
➸ Reptile Egg:
Captured by: Irves
Like the beast egg, this one also has legs poking out of it. However, instead of soft fur, there's tough scales and claws. It seems more... fighty than the others.
➸ Arthropod Egg:
Captured by: Gremio
In contrast to the other eggs, this one seems to have small insect-like wings that have broken through from the back along with twitching antennae and definitely bug-like feet. Its wings allow it to do a bit of short term hovering, and it can't get too far off the ground yet.
➸ Aquatic Egg 2:
Captured by:
